Nebraska Healthy Families & Workplace Act

Paid Sick Leave law for Nebraska employers with 11+ employees. Here is what you need to know. 

Required Employers & Employees

Nebraska’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act applies to all employers and/or employees that work in Nebraska EXCEPT: 

  • Businesses with 10 or fewer employees,
  • Workers under age 16 who do not have dependents, 
  • Employees who work fewer than 80 hours annually,
  • Temporary and seasonal agricultural employees,
  • Business owners on payroll.

Required Policy

Employers must implement a policy that includes, at least, the specifications defined in the Nebraska’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.


  • Employees must accrue at least one (1) hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Employers can either provide paid sick time on an accrual basis or frontload it at the beginning of the year.  
  • Small businesses with 11-19 employees must provide at least 40 hours of paid sick time annually. 
  • Businesses with 20 or more employees must provide at least 56 hours of paid sick time annually. 
  •  Eligible employees must begin accruing leave after 80 hours of consecutive employment.

Required Notices

Employers must provide written notice of this Act to employees by September 15, 2025, or upon hire, whichever is later.

And, employers must display a poster containing the information required in the notice.

  • Spanish Paid Sick Time Poster

Required Recordkeeping

Employers are required to provide employees with a statement of the following on each regular pay period: 

  • Amount of paid sick time available, 
  • Amount of paid sick time taken, and 
  • Amount of pay the employee has received as paid sick time.
